Distinguished Flying Medal GVI  Miniature. Instituted in 1918 at the same time as the DFC to recognise NCO's and men of the RAF for courage whilst on flying duties. Around 105 medals were awarded during the First World War and 6500 during World War Two, with some 60 second award bars.
